Friday the 13th is not always bad luck...at least not for Stalk It surfer Aloha Lopez who became the 2015 Legends of the Bay Women's Champion on the 13th of March. The Legends of the Bay is an annual surf contest is held at the world renowned Honolua Bay on the island of Maui in Hawaii. Surfers from around the island, wait in anticipation for there opportunity to compete in this prestigious event, with the winners earning major bragging rights for the year.
This year Mother Nature was a bit fickle when it came to providing waves for the event. The holding period began in January, the right conditions were hard to come this year. The contest director needs significant swell size with light off shore winds. Finally, with the holding period coming to an end, Mother Nature produced the right conditions - light winds with waves faces in the 8 to 10 foot range. The competitors were notified and the event kicked off on Friday the 13th of March at 7:00 am.
Aloha took on some of the island's top female surfers with her graceful yet dynamic surfing. She won all of her heats which landed her in the final and the title of 2015 Legends of the Bay Women's Champion. This was her second time having won the Legends of the Bay event, with her last win in 2013 and at the age of 13, she won the Jr. Women Championship. Honolua Bay is her home break and winning this title in front of her friends and family was icing on the cake.
